Nesting Dolls - The Brady Bunch
In late February/early March, I was invited to participate in a meet-and-greet breakfast with Barry Williams, who played Greg Brady on "The Brady Bunch". I was excited and decided that I would paint Brady Bunch nesting doll set in hopes that he would sign it or at the very least I could get a picture with him holding his character.
Then in a matter of weeks Covid-19 hit and we watched as things started to shut down and events cancelled, including this one. To distract me from my disappointment and the general troubles of the world I decided to go ahead and paint the set anyway.
It was difficult to decide on outfits to put them in or even what season to work from. So, I decided to go with the classic season 4 episodes where the Brady’s go to Hawaii. These outfits were fun and colorful with lots of patterns; my favorite kind to paint. These outfits are not all from the same episode. I had to choose based on what worked best on the figure and what reference shots I could find.
I painted all eight Brady’s plus Alice, but there was still one figure left in the 10 piece set, so went with the Tiki idol as the smallest. It is only about 1/4 inch tall, so I had to use a very tiny brush, but I was able to get the details.
This set is proudly displayed in our 70s inspired dining room. Although I was never able to meet Greg Brady I did get the approval of Maureen McCormick, who played Marsha Brady and Christopher Knight who played Peter Grady.
