2017 Cookbook Challenge Week 6 - Elvis' Peanut Butter & Banana Sandwiches

I'm a bit late posting the recipe for week 6, even though it was probably the easiest recipe I'll make.  For this week, I decided to make "Peanut Butter & Banana Sandwiches", from the cookbook, "From Elvis' Kitchen to Yours, Authentic Recipes from Graceland".  I picked up this little book on our trip to Graceland a few years ago.  I've never made anything from this book before, so decided to pick the most iconic Elvis recipe I could.  I'll admit, I also chose this recipe because I really wanted to draw a dancing Elvis peanut, for the heading image.  My heading image was inspired by the 1964 Elvis and Ann-Margret movie "Viva Las Vegas". (We call my characters Elvis Peanut and Banana-Margret.  The credit goes to Chris for the name.)

Anyway, moving on to the recipe.  It's well known that Elvis' favorite sandwich was Peanut Butter and Banana.  I always assumed this was just bread with peanut butter and sliced bananas.  This recipe is actually a grilled sandwich.

The first step was to mash the bananas and then mix in peanut butter to make a spread. Then butter white bread and spread the peanut butter and banana mixture on it.  Then just grill the sandwiches as you would a grilled cheese.  That's all there is to it!

The result is a sweet and gooey sandwich, with a buttery crust. I recommend serving this with something salty on the side, to offset the sweetness.  Much like a Fluffernutter, this is probably not something you'd want to eat all the time, but still pretty good.  Chris thought it needed bacon to knock down the sweetness and I don't disagree.
